I’m an amateur “ Planktonista” and on this website you will find photos of all the plankton I collect in freshwater ponds and ditches in the western part of the Netherlands. Because some polders lie at low elevations, groundwater rises to the surface (seepage). Deep underground, this water has acquired a higher salt content, making it slightly brackish in certain areas. This gives rise to specific, salt-tolerant (halophytic) species.
